Prototypes

Prototype, planned, proposed, and nearly-made Micronauts projects. This page now treats each subject as a separate research file with its own info box and factoids instead of a simple repeated-card index.

Mego Creature Prototypes

Equestron and Iguanos split into their own research notes while keeping them grouped as the late Mego creature/vehicle prototype file.

Prototype Research Boxes

Each box below summarizes what is known, what stage the project reached, and the collector factoid that makes the subject worth separating.

Canceled 2005 SOTA revival

SOTA Micronauts-Evolution

Known subjects
Baron Karza, Space Glider, Lobros, and a later Karza centaur-style build.
Stage
Publicly shown sculpt/prototype development, then scale rethinking by Toy Fair 2006.
Key factoid
The line began as a more detailed 6-inch collector approach, then shifted toward classic 3¾-inch scale and standardized pegs.
Late Mego creature/vehicle file

Mego Creature Prototypes

Known subjects
Equestron and Iguanos, with Gyrotron often discussed nearby as another hard-to-confirm late Mego item.
Stage
Catalog/archive evidence; no normal U.S. retail release confirmed.
Key factoid
Equestron was described as a motorized armored stallion and chariot using two C batteries.
Palisades Series 3 concepts

Palisades Think Tank

Known subjects
Multiple creator concept groups, including Dave Waugh and Will Jones design explorations.
Stage
Concept-art/development gallery after the Micronauts plug was pulled.
Key factoid
The 2002 consultant group was meant to generate new Micronauts ideas rather than simply reissue vintage figures forever.
Screen-driven development

Film & Revival Lane

Known subjects
Bad Robot/Paramount film development, Hasbro universe planning, and the 2016 Classic Collection tribute.
Stage
Rights/media development with limited tribute product, not a continuous prototype toy line.
Key factoid
The 2016 Hasbro SDCC set leaned on recovered/legacy Takara tooling and new Ken Kelly-style packaging art.

Factoids / What You May Not Know

  • SOTA's revival was not just a repaint plan; the early Baron Karza concept had removable/opening parts, lots of accessories, and a far more elaborate paint plan than a normal vintage homage.
  • The Palisades Series 3 archive is closer to a design workshop than a finished toy checklist; some designs were character directions, others were loose mood/concept sketches.
  • Equestron and Iguanos should be labeled as unreleased/prototype subjects, not as missing regular-release toys.
  • Screen-development material belongs in a separate lane because film rights, tribute sets, and future-revival pitches can otherwise get mistaken for actual toy prototypes.
